A 68-year-old bicyclist has died after being hit by an empty logging trailer in central Wisconsin.

It happened late Wednesday afternoon in the Adams County town of Rome, south of Wisconsin Rapids. Police say Judy Gause was riding her bike south on County Highway Z when she was hit by a truck going in the same direction. Officers arriving on the scene found the woman in a ditch near her bicycle. Police said the victim lived near the scene of the incident.

The trucker was a 42-year-old Mauston man. The State Patrol is helping Rome Police with its investigation.

The woman is now the 14th cyclist killed this year as the result of a traffic crash in the state.
