State Democrats could get a financial boost from a couple of retiring politicians.
Governor Doyle and Congressman Dave Obey are not running for re-election, and they have a combined $3.3 million in their war chests.
Jay Heck with Wisconsin Common Cause says they have many options when it comes to what to do with the money, including giving it to charity. However, he expects most of it will end up going to support Democratic candidates who are running this fall.
For Doyle, Heck says Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett will likely receive a cash boost from the $1.9 million in Doyle’s campaign fund. Obey is likely to offer financial support to state Senate Julie Lassa (D-Stevens Point) is running for his seat.
