Authorities in northeastern Wisconsin have a man in custody after making a big marijuana seizure at his residence. Lieutenant Dave Remiker of the Manitowoc County Metro Drug Unit called it one of the biggest non-growing marijuana operation ever in Manitowoc County – 78 pounds of pot plus $35,000 cash was seized Friday.
“We estimate that each pound of marijuana would yield about a thousand dollars profit,” Remiker said. “Based on just the marijuana seized alone, we estimate that is valued at approximately $300,000.”
Deputies took 39-year-old Brian Guilmette of Collins into custody on Friday. Lieutenant Mark Wiegert of the Calumet County Sheriff’s Department said the case broke wide open when they set up a controlled
buy with Guilmette at an apartment complex in New Holstein.
“We knew that there was a pretty substantial supplier in Manitowoc County,” he said. “We had set up this buy bust on Friday, not knowing that we’d get this kind of seizure. It was just good old-fashioned police work.”
Investigators from both counties had been working on the case for months. Guilmette’s two children were with him when arrested and were placed in the care of a family member. Guilmette had cash bail set at $100,000 Monday in Manitowoc County Circuit Court.
