Green Bay Packers strong safety Atari Bigby is in Charlotte, North Carolina

Atari Bigby

today, undergoing surgery on his ailing left ankle.  It’s the second ankle procedure for Bigby in the last 19 months.  He underwent micro-fracture surgery in December of 2008.

Bigby said this procedure is a scope, a “cleanup” of some scar tissue.  He said the recovery time is about 4-weeks, which leaves him with not a lot of time left to get ready for the regular season opener, Sept. 12th against the Eagles.

The player that continues to benefit from Bigby’s absence is 3rd round draft pick Morgan Burnett.  Burnett worked with the 1’s on defense during OTA’s and Mini-Camp because Bigby stayed away, looking for a long term contract.

Bigby’s ankle could possibly have been dealt with much sooner, but he refused to sign his contract tender and attend off season workouts.
