A motorcyclist suspected in the fatal shooting of a motorist following a dispute at a Janesville intersection last month has been bound over for trial on a charge of first-degree reckless homicide. James M. Humphrey of Janesville appeared in Rock County Court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.

The 44 year-old Humphrey is accused of shooting 30 year-old Sam Aegerter of Janesville after a confrontation on Friday, June 4, while both were stopped for a red light at Janesville’s Five Points intersection. According to the criminal complaint, Humphrey was riding a motorcycle, and Aegerter was a passenger in a Jeep.

Two witnesses testified at the hearing, where the victim’s friends and family members filled half the courtroom. Many wore T-shirts with Aegerter’s picture. Humphrey’s friends and family members also attended. Humphrey, who remains in the Rock County Jail on one million dollars bail, faces a maximum 60 years in prison on conviction.
