There's quite a bit of support for a bill introduced in the Legislature today to ban text messaging while driving.
There are 23 co-sponsors for the measure already, sponsored by State Senator Alan Lasee (R-De Pere). He says that clearly means there's a lot of interest in ending a terrible and dangerous practice on Wisconsin roadways.
Lasee says a lot can happen to a driver if they take their eyes of the road long enough to check or type a text message. Also, the De Pere Republicans says surveys have found nearly 50 percent of teenagers have sent a text message while driving.
Washington State and New Jersey have passed similar laws that specifically ban text messaging while driving.
