Training for CPR could soon include instruction on how to use Automatic External Defibrillators.

CPR training is required for several professions, but many courses don't include instruction on the use of Automatic External Defibrillators, or AEDs. Cheryl Murray with the Red Cross says the two should go together because the devices have become an important part of saving lives. Many public places now have AEDs easily accessible for emergency situations.

Legislation at the Capitol requires AED training to be included in mandatory CPR courses, for several professions that require certification. State Senator Kathleen Vinehout (D-Alma), a sponsor of the bill, says the devices can save lives when in the hands of someone who is trained to use them.

The bill is being considered by a Senate committee.
