What's your credit score have to do with getting insurance? Nothing, in the view of a state lawmaker who wants to prohibit insurance companies from using credit scores as a factor in determining premium rates. Rep. Terese Berceau (D-Madison) says she's had insurance agents tell her of clients rates increasing, simply because of a credit score. The insurance industry argues using credit scores simply allows agents to more accurately determine risk, and that some policyholders will end up paying lower premiums. Berceau's bill prohibiting the practice has not yet received a public hearing.
