A state lawmaker has proposed school security legislation.
Madison Assembly Democrat Spencer Black would essentially allow school districts to spend funds above the state imposed spending caps, for things like security officers, building improvements and equipmenmt to improve safety. Black opposes Republican Frank Lasee's efforts to allow teachers and other school staff to have access to guns; he says his legislation allows districts to make their own decisions on how to address school security, but that arming school staff is not the way to go.
Black says he proposed similar legislation in the last session of the legislature, but that it failed to advance in the Republican controlled Assembly.
