“I’m sorry David.” Those words were allegedly spoken by 19-year-old Jordan Scott, just before he shot and killed a co-worker last week. Scott and 22-year-old David Johnson both worked at a Subway restaurant on Portage’s north side. Scott opened fire outside the restaurant, as Johnson was reporting for work.

Bond was set at a million dollars for Scott in Columbia County Court. According to court documents, Scott told responding officers that he was angry with Johnson from the night before, and decided he had to die. Robin Bublitz, a former employer of Johnson, said people were in disbelief over the brutal crime.

“He was the kind of kid you’d want your kids to grow up like,” she said of the victim. “He was just a fun kid to be around, and he’d give you the shirt off his back if he could.” A memorial service for Johnson is being held in Portage today.
