Bond has been set at $75,000 for a Racine man police say sent threatening text messages to women because he was bored.

The Racine County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest this week of 42-year-old William Crockett for allegedly calling and sending threatening and obscene text messages to more than a dozen people. Crockett has been charged with four counts of stalking and a misdemeanor count of sending a threatening computer message. The charges stem from incidents involving four women, including a Sheriff’s investigator working on the case.

According to the criminal complaint, investigators received complaints from 13 people about phone calls and text messages from the same number. In the three cases resulting in felony charges, the victims said they received text messages threatening rape and bodily harm. The caller also had personal information about some of the victims.

When questioned about the incidents, investigators say Crockett told them he got “ugly” with his victims after he was told to stop texting them, which he felt was “rude.” Crockett claimed “they were just words.”

The Sheriff plans to hold a press conference regarding the case on Thursday.
