Green Bay Phoenix women’s coach Kevin Borseth shoots for win number-600 in his career, as his Green Bay Phoenix women’s basketball team hosts Valparaiso on Thursday night at the Kress Center.
Green Bay (20-4, 10-1 Horizon League) is enjoying a three-game winning streak following its first conference setback of the season. Following a 79-62 win over in-state rival UW-Milwaukee, the Phoenix holds a two-game lead in the Horizon League, plus they own the tie-breaker over Wright State, having swept the two-game regular season series over the Raiders.
Borseth is the all-time winningest coach in Horizon League history with 164 career wins. That’s eight more wins than former Milwaukee Panthers coach Sandy Botham, who totalled 156 victories. Butler’s Beth Couture tallied 99 victories.
Borseth is in his 27th overall season, the 12th in Green Bay. He led the Phoenix for nine seasons before leaving for the University of Michigan. After five years with the Wolverines, Borseth returned to Green Bay.
Last season, Borseth led Green Bay to its 16th-consecutive Horizon League title and 27th all-time 20+ win season en route to being named the Horizon League Coach of the Year for the eighth time in his 11 years at the helm.
In 2012-13, Borseth led the Phoenix to an overall record of 29-3 and a perfect 16-0 in the Horizon League, the team’s 36th straight winning season and 15th straight regular season Horizon League title. The team also advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time under his guidance.
Borseth’s overall record at Green Bay is 287-79. His mark at Green Bay is 164-17.
