Lake Michigan and Southeast Wisconsin’s inland waterways are among some of the great summertime ventures, but the importance of safety continues to grab attention. A 12-year old boy was pulled from the lake just outside the swim area at Racine’s popular North Beach Sunday night by the sheriff’s Water Patrol, but life saving efforts proved futile.

It’s one of the latest water-related tragedies in the southeast region. The body of a Milwaukee area man, in his late teens, was found in the city’s Lincoln Creek after his car was overwhelmed by last Thursday’s rain deluge.

The body of a 53-year old Illinois man was recovered from Kenosha County’s Lake Elizabeth a day after he went in to help a friend, only to disappear.
