A large portion of Wisconsin is in Old Man Winter’s cross hairs tonight. Weather Central meteorologist Brian Olson said sixteen counties are under a blizzard warning through noon Wednesday. In addition to that, seven more counties are under a winter storm watch. The National Weather Service is advising against travel overnight and Olson says that’s excellent advice. “If you get stuck, it is the type of storm with the type of wind chills and the type of winds that can prove to be deadly,” said Olson.

Olson said snowfall amounts could range from nine to ten inches in the western portion of the blizzard area, to up to fifteen inches in parts of southeastern Wisconsin. And he noted Wisconsin is just one part of this weather picture. Along with the snow, winds gusting to over forty miles an hour will push wind chills to below zero. “It’s a huge system. This is going to encompass the eastern half of the United States, and we’re talking about 100 to 130 million people impact by this storm alone.”
