For the second straight game the Milwaukee Brewers (45-41) watched a 6-1 lead turn to defeat.  The Brewers dropped the opener of their 7-game homestand to the Arizona Diamondbacks (46-40) Monday at Miller Park 8-6.

Shawn Marcum helped the Brewers build the lead with his arm and his bat.  In the 4th inning, Marcum connected for a Grand Slam, the first homer of his career.  He also went 6-innings on the mound giving up 4-runs on 7-hits.  Marcum talks about handling a tough loss:

The bullpen faltered once again.  Latroy Hawkins, Kameron Loe and John Axford each gave up at least a run.  The three combined to give up 4-runs on 10-hits in 3 2/3 innings.  Axford notched the loss as he gave up 2-runs in the 9th.

The Brewers were without All-Star OF Ryan Braun for the second straight game.  Braun injured his calf in Saturday’s win in Minnesota.

The Brewers and Diamondbacks are back on the field tonight for game-2 of their 3-game series.  Randy Wolf locks up with Zack Duke.  7:10 is the first pitch.
