The Milwaukee Brewers dropped 3 of 4 games in the desert, falling 3-0 to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday at Chase Field in Phoenix. It was Arizona’s second straight shutout, the first time they’ve collected back-to-back shutouts since June 3-4 of 2011.
With starters Adam Lind, Carlos Gomez and Jean Segura held out Craig Counsell’s lineup, the Brewers had just four hits and went 0 for 9 with runners in scoring position. In the four game series, the Brewers converted just 3 of 26 times with runners in scoring position. Over the last three games, the Brewers scored just three runs and went 0 for 19 with runners in scoring position.
Jeremy Hellickson pitched six scoreless innings while Jake Lamb and Chris Owings provided run-scoring, extra-base hits for the Diamondbacks.
Matt Garza (5-11) lost for the fourth time in his last five decisions for the Brewers. He allowed three earned runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out five in 5 2/3 innings.
The back-t0-back shutouts for the Brewers is a first this season.
The Brewers open a three-game series in San Francisco tonight. Kyle Lohse (5-11, 6.29 ERA) pitches for Milwaukee. Chris Heston (10-5, 3.18 ERA) gets the nod for the Giants.
