Miller Park batting practiceBarring any late changes or injuries, the Milwaukee Brewers have their 25-players that they’ll open the season with on Monday against the Colorado Rockies at Miller Park.

The Brewers haven’t announced their plan for relief pitcher Jim Henderson, but they’ll decide on one of two options.  He’ll either open the season in the minors or on the disabled list.

The Brewers decided to give the final roster spot to outfielder Logan Schafer instead of utility infielder Elian Herrera.  Herrera will head to Class AAA Colorado Springs, which means Luis Jimenez and Hector Gomez will serve as the Brewers backup infielders.

Hunter Morris

The Brewers announced yesterday that they’ve traded first baseman Hunter Morris to the Pittsburgh Pirates for a player to be named later.

The 26-year-old Morris was once a top prospect in the Brewers organization, but he suffered a broken wrist last season after being hit by a pitch and finished .275 with 11 home runs and 45 runs batted in over 103 games split between Class AAA Nashville and Class AA Huntsville.

Morris hit .231 with 1 rbi in 13 at bats during Cactus League play.

Morris’ best season came in 2012 when he hit .303 with 28 homers and 113 rbi while being named the Southern League’s Player of the Year.  He struggled in 2013 when he jumped to Nashville, hitting .247 with 24 homers and 73 rbi.

Brewers fall

The Brewers fell to the San Diego Padres on Thursday, 6-5.  They’ll face the Indians today.  The Brewers send Wily Peralta (2-0, 2.51) to the mound against Cleveland’s Carlos Carrasco (2-2, 2.70).
