Jacob deGrom pitched 6 1/3 innings of shutout ball to help blank the Milwaukee Brewers 2-0 on Sunday at Miller Park.  The Mets victory earned them a split of the four-game series with the Brewers.

Brewers right-handed rookie starter Jimmy Nelson didn’t have great command, but he made the key pitches when he needed to until the sixth inning.  That’s when he caught too much of the plate on an 0-2 pitch to Lucas Duda and Duda planted it in the right field stands for a two-run home run.  It was Duda’s third home run in the four-game series.

Nelson (1-2, 4.30 ERA) worked seven innings and allowed five hits and two walks while striking out six.

The loss trimmed the Brewers’ lead in the National League Central to two games over the St. Louis Cardinals.  The Brewers finished the home stand with a  5-2 record.

They’ll now open a tough road trip with a 3-game series in Tampa Bay, followed by a trip to St. Louis

Kyle Lohse (11-4, 3.07) pitches the series opener for the Brewers tonight.  Former Brewers prospect Jake Odorizzi (6-8, 3.97) gets the nod for the Brewers.
