For the first time since May 7th, 2007, Brewers Pitcher Chris Capuano got to wake up the next morning and see a “W” next to his name in the box score.  His five-innings of one-run, three-hit baseball helped the Crew to a 3-1 win at PNC Park in Pittsburgh over the Pirates Monday night.

It was the first win for Capuano in his last 13-decisions and 30-appearances.  It also snapped a 19-game losing streak by the Brewers in games that Capuano started.  After a second Tommy John surgery in the 2007 off-season, Capuano battled back to the big league roster this June.  In his 2nd start of 2010, Capuano was rewarded for his hard work:

Capuano has spent almost all his time in Milwaukee this season in the bullpen.  He had some help from his friends in the pen last night.  The bullpen went four-shutout innings anchored by John Axford’s 12 save of the year to preserve the win:

The Brewers offense was once again led by the long ball.  Prince Fielder homered in his third-straight game (23rd of the season) while Rickie Weeks smacked his 3rd homer in the last two games (18th of the season).  Weeks 2-run shot in the 6th broke a 1-1 tie.

Milwaukee will send Dave Bush to the bump tonight in game two of the four game set.  Pittsburgh counters with Brad Lincoln.  It’s a 6:05 first pitch from PNC Park.
