It took until the final day of baseball's regular season for the Milwaukee Brewers to wrap up the National League wildcard title. They did it by beating the Chicago Cubs 3-1 and seeing the New York Mets fall to the Florida Marlins 4-2. The Brewers trip into the playoffs is their first in 26 years, dating back to the 1982 World Series team.
CC Sabathia once again took the ball on short rest and for the third straight start, came away big. He went the distance, allowing just four hits to pick up his 11th win in a Brewers uniform. Ryan Braun was the hitting start, clubbing his 37th homer of the season, a 2-run blast in the 8th that sent the Brewers to the victory. 45,299 watched it happen at Miller Park.. Sabathia improved to 11-2 with a 1.65 ERA in 17 starts with the Brewers.
The Brewers haven't announced their playoff roster or set their pitching rotation yet, but it's likely Sabathia will start game two of the 5-game divisional series on Wednesday afternoon. If he does, he'll start on short rest for a fourth consecutive start.
Also, right hander Ben Sheets isn't expected to be on the divisional playoff roster when it's announced by the team. Sheets continues to be bothered a\by arm problems and neither he or the Brewers want to take a chance at this stage, of him being on the roster and not being able to pitch.
