After the Milwaukee Brewers were swept over the weekend by the Chicago Cubs, they were glad to see the the Pittsburgh Pirates back in town.
The Brewers turned a lopsided game in the 8th into a major league blowout by scoring 9-runs in the inning, on the way to a 17-3 win at Miller Park.
After outscoring the Pirates 36-1 in a 3-game sweep last week, the Brewers have now outscored Pittsburgh 53-4 over the last four meetings between the two teams.
The Brewers have won 22 straight against the Pirates at Miller Park, who haven’t won at Miller Park since May 3, 2007.
Catcher Gregg Zaun tied career highs with 4 hits and 5 rbi’s. Casey McGehee clubbed a grand slam in the 9-run 8th.
Right hander Yovani Gallardo worked 6 solid innings for the win. He also helped his own cause by driving in three runs. Zach Duke took the loss for the Pirates. He’s allowed 15 runs on 16 hits in 9-innings against the Brewers this season.
Randy Wolf (2-1) faces Jeff Karstens in game 2 of the series tonight.
