People around the office continue to remind me how small the Milwaukee Brewers’ chances are in obtaining the final wildcard spot in the National League.  This pessimism has done little to slow down the Brewers, who have now won 18 of their last 23 games.

Number 18 game last night, a 8-2 win over Atlanta and a 3-game sweep of the Braves.  The Brewers joined the red-hot Philadelphia Phillies in pulling to within 3-games of the slumping St. Louis Cardinals for the final NL Wildcard spot.  The Brewers have 19-games left to play.

Yovani Gallardo went 7-strong innings last night, allowing just 4-hits to earn his 15th win of the season.  Rickie Weeks continued his hot second half hitting by clubbing a line-drive home run.  Travis Ishikawa also added a bases clearing double in the Brewers 8-run fifth.

The Brewers climbed above .500 for the first time since April 12.  They’ll get a well deserved day off today, before opening a 3-game weekend series against the New York Mets.
