The Milwaukee Brewers were far from perfect on Tuesday night, but after losing some tight games in the series with Philadelphia over the weekend, they found a way to pull out a 2-1 walk off win over the Colorado Rockies at Miller Park.
Starting pitcher Zach Greinke may have said it best after the game. He said the Brewers lost some games last week that they could have won, so it’s only fair that they win one that they perhaps didn’t deserve.
Ryan Braun clubbed the walk off game winning home run in the 11th for the Brewers. Prior to Braun’s homer, the Brewers had managed just five hits and one run, a Prince Fielder home run in the 6th.
The Brewers played some very questionable defense, including Braun misjudging a line drive to left that allowed the Rockies to score their only run. Braun wasn’t charged with an error, but it’s a ball he clearly should have caught.
Greinke allowed five hits and one run while walking two and striking out nine. Reliever Kameron Loe picked up the win in relief.
The win allowed the Brewers to remain 6 1/2 games in front of the second place St. Louis Cardinals. Their magic number to clinch the division crown is now down to eight games.
Shaun Marcum pitches the series finale tonight at Miller Park against Colorado’s Kevin Millwood.
