The Milwaukee Brewers acquired outfielder Jody Gerut from San Diego in exchange for outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr.  Gerut will report to the Brewers in Minneapolis tonight and a corresponding roster move will be announced then.

Gerut hit .221 with 4 HR and 14 RBI in 37 games with the San Diego Padres this season.  He owns a career .267 batting average with 52 HR and 197 RBI in five Major League seasons with Cleveland, Chicago (NL), Pittsburgh and San Diego.  His best season came as a rookie in 2003 when he hit .279 with 22 HR and 75 RBI in 127 games, finishing fourth in American League Rookie of the Year voting.

Gwynn was selected by the Brewers in the second round of the 2003 First-Year Player Draft.  He spent parts of three seasons in the Major Leagues with the Brewers (2006-08).  He was hitting .309 with 1 HR, 9 RBI and 15 stolen bases in 38 games at Triple-A Nashville this year.
