Todd Frazier’s rbi double in the bottom of the 10th inning gave the Cincinnati Reds a 4-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday. Frazier got the chance to be a hero after Brewers reliever Tyler Thornburg issued a 2-out walk to Chris Heisey, who wound up scoring on Frazier’s hit.
The Brewers had a 3-2 lead in the 8th, but Brandon Phillips clubbed a game tying home run off of Brandon Kintzler to force extra innings.
Prior to the Phillips home run, Kyle Lohse was in-line for the win. He put together another quality start, pitching 6 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits and a walk while striking out two.
The loss means the Brewers dropped 3 of 4 in the series and return home after going 3-4 on the 7-game trip. The Brewers managed just 24 hits and 10 runs in the four-game series.
The Brewers had a chance in their half of the 10th inning when Khris Davis led off with a double only to be stranded when Jeff Bianchi couldn’t get down a sacrifice bunt and Jean Segura popped out to short right field. Logan Schafer drew a two-out walk to put two on, but Carlos Gomez struck out.
The Brewers have now lost 10 of their last 14 games at Great American Ball Park. But they’re still 21-11 on the season overall, which continues to be the best record in baseball.
The Brewers now return home to host Arizona tonight. The Brewers will go with Matt Garza (1-3, 5.00) and Arizona sends Mike Bolsinger (1-1, 5.79) to the mound. The Diamondbacks have struggled this season, starting play today with a 11-23 record.
