The Milwaukee Brewers opened a 3-game series in Cincinnati last night, falling to the Reds 6-3. The Brewers continue to struggle scoring runs and over the last 13 games, they're just 10 for 104 with runners in scoring position, including a 1 for 10 performance against Reds starter and winner Bronson Arroyo. They've dropped 7 of their last 9 games and the frustration led to Prince Fielder and pitcher Manny Parra getting involved in an altercation during the game in the dugout.
The Brewers remain 5-games behind the division leading Cubs and their wildcard lead is just a half-game over the St. Louis Cardinals. Parra not only suffered the loss on the mound, but he took the brunt of the exchange with Fielder. Ryan Braun clubbed his 30th home run of the season in the loss. He was one of several Brewers breaking up the dugout altercation.
Fielder has displayed his hot temper before, most recently in an ejection in a loss to the Cubs last week. The Brewers are dismissing the incident as a family squabble, one that will be forgotten when they all return to the ballpark today. But the Brewers are struggling and not winning and its these kind of incidents that can divide a team. How Ned Yost (pictured) deals with this incident may have a big impact on just how well the Brewers play down the stretch.
