A 3-7 homestand is nothing to write home about, but it's better than a 2-8 home stay at Miller Park. The Milwaukee Brewers avoided being swept by the Cincinnati Reds when Mike Cameron singled in the go-ahead run in the 8th, setting the Brewers up for a 4-3 win.
It wasn't pretty, but the Brewers stopped worrying about pretty a long time ago. They needed a win, something to grab onto heading out on a 10-game road trip. They'll open a 4-game series in Philadelphia tonight.
The Brewers scored a second straight unearned run and then scored again when Tony Gwynn Jr. hit into a bases loaded double play. Cameron followed by the game winning rbi single to center. The Brewers can now hit the road feeling better about themselves.
CC Sabathia fell behind when he served up a 3-run homer, but the Brewers comeback got the left handed ace off the hook. The Brewers are now 12-1 in games in which Sabathia has started. They're 22-22 in games he didn't start since his arrival in Milwaukee. He remains unbeaten with the Brewers at 9-0. The Brewers trail the Cubs by 4 1/2 games in the Central, but they have a 4-game wildcard lead.
Ben Sheets is scheduled to pitch the first of the four-game series in Philadelphia tonight.
