Milwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that he expects to put a proposal together to make free agent pitcher Jeff Suppan an offer.

Suppan has won 44 games over the last three seasons and is reportedly drawing interest from a number of teams, including big spenders San Francisco and the New York Mets.

Whether the Brewers can make Suppan a competitive offer remains to be seen.  Teams have been overspending in free agency and the Brewers may have to do the same if they want to have a shot of landing a pitcher of Suppan's caliber.

Suppan was named the World Series MVP just 1 run on 5 hits in 15 innings of work.  Suppan is 12-2 with a 3.29 ERA in 21 starts lifetime against the Brewers.  He's 5-0 with a 1.76 ERA in seven starts at Miller Park.
