Milwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin has informed Dale Sveum that he no longer is under consideration for the team's managerial position for the upcoming season.  Sveum finished the season as the teams interim manager after Ned Yost was fired with 12 games left in the regular season.

The Brewers also announced that Melvin's contract had been extended three years, through the 2012 season, and that hitting coach Jim Skaalen would not return.

Melvin told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel earlier this week that he had been contacted by a few former big-league managers who expressed interest in the position.

The Brewers did leave the door open for Sveum to remain on the coaching staff with the new manager.  The Brewers went 7-5 under Sveum and clinched the National League wild-card berth on the final day of the season, ending a 26 year playoff drought.  But they were eliminated from the playoffs in four games by the Philadelphia Phillies.
