Bronson Arroyo has been the Milwaukee Brewers worst nightmare. Arroyo allowed an unearned run on 5-hits in 7 1/3 innings today, knocking off the Brewers 3-2 at Miller Park. It gave Arizona the series 2 games to 1 and Arroyo earned his 16th career win against the Brewers.
Paul Goldschmidt hit a two-run homer for the second straight game to back Arroyo. Addison Reed earned his 10th save in 11 chances despite giving up a run in the 9th.
Wily Peralta took the loss for the Brewers. He gave up 11 of Arizona’s 14 hits, but held the Diamondbacks to 2-runs in six innings of work.
The Brewers closed to within a run in the ninth. Scooter Gennett doubled and eventually scored on Lyle Overbay’s sacrifice fly. But Reed struck out Mark Reynolds to end it.
The Brewers had the bases loaded in the 8th inning with 1 out and Carlos Gomez coming to the plate. But Gomez hit into one of four Brewer double plays on the afternoon to squelch the rally.
The Brewers get the day off on Thursday. Yovani Gallardo (2-1) opens a three-game series against the visiting New York Yankees on Friday night at Miller Park.
