With St. Louis, Pittsburgh and Atlanta all losing last night, the Milwaukee Brewers had a chance to gain some ground in the National League playoff chase.  Instead, they fell to the Miami Marlins 6-3, falling for the 13th time in the last 14 games.

Casey McGehee and Marcell Ozuna clubbed back-to-back home runs with two outs in the ninth inning, breaking open a tie game and pulling out the win.

Both home runs came off of Brewers closer Francisco Rodriguez (4-5), who has given up a career-high 14 home runs this season.

Bryan Morris (8-1) pitched out of a no-out, bases-loaded jam in the eighth to earn the win.  Steve Cishek earned his 34th save.

Matt Garza lasted just four innings in his second start for the Brewers after missing nearly four weeks with an oblique strain.  He gave up two runs on six hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.  Brewers pitchers struck out 15 Marlins on the night.

Wily Peralta (15-10, 3.84) pitches game three of the series for the Brewers tonight.  Miami counters with Jarred Cosart (4-1, 1.99 ERA).

Minor League honors

Pitcher Jimmy Nelson, who is on the Brewers’ roster, and catcher Clint Coulter were named the Brewers organization’s minor-league pitcher and player of the year for 2014.

Nelson went 10-2 with a 1.46 ERA in 17 games at Class AAA Nashville.

Coulter played the entire season with the Class A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, where he hit .287 with 22 home runs and 89 RBI’s in 126 games.
