An 8th inning gamble by manager Ken Macha paid off and the Milwaukee Brewers, in the role of a spoiler, knocked off the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 in St.
Louis.
Macha walked Albert Pujols to put the potential winning run on base. He instead pitched to Matt Holliday, who has a career .372 batting average against the Brewers and got Holliday to ground into a fielders choice to end the threat.
John Axford, who record two outs in the 8th, completed his 18th save in 20 tries in the 9th inning.
Dave Bush, who gave up four straight home runs his last time out, allowed just one last night, a solo home run by Albert Pujols in the St. Louis 4th.
Casey McGehee clubbed a 2-run home run in the 3rd, part of a 3-run inning and the Brewers never looked back. McGehee had 3-hits on the night, raising his average to .288.
The Cardinals have dropped 3-straight have have now fallen 2-games behind the Cincinnati Reds in the NL Central Division race.
