It's only May 2nd, but the Milwaukee Brewers playoff chances have taken a major blow.
Yesterday, the Brewers thought Yovani Gallardo was going to be OK and that he escaped a serious knee injury after landing awkwardly on a play at first base in the 5th inning.
But according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel , an exam in Milwaukee this (Friday) morning showed Gallardo did indeed suffer a torn (ACL) anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. Gallardo was put on the 15-day disabled list and the Brewers recalled pitcher Dave Bush from Triple A Nashville.
The Brewers won't decide on surgery until the swelling goes down in Gallardo's knee, but it's likely that he'll miss the rest of the season. That would be a major blow to the Brewers pennant chances.
Gallardo missed the first three weeks of the season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee to repair torn cartilage.
In three starts since returning from the DL, Gallardo was 0-0 with a 1.80 ERA.
