The Milwaukee Brewers today recalled shortstop Jean Segura from Double-A Huntsville.  Segura takes the 25-man roster spot of infielder Cesar Izturis, who was claimed off waivers by the Washington Nationals.

Segura is in the starting lineup tonight against the Reds.  He’s been penciled into the 8-spot in the batting order.

The 22-year-old Segura was acquired by Milwaukee with right-handed pitchers Johnny Hellweg and Ariel Pena in the deal that sent Zach Greinke to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on July 27.  He hit .433 (13 for 30) with 4 RBI and 4 stolen bases in 8 games with Huntsville.

Segura entered the season as the Angels’ second-best prospect according to Baseball America.

Izturis hit .235 with 2 HR and 11 RBI in 57 games with the Brewers this season after making the team as a non-roster player.
