The Milwaukee Brewers capped off a three-game sweep of the Pirates over the weekend and climbed to within 4 1/2 games of the Central Division leading Chicago Cubs, but all they could seem to focus on was what they believe was a poor scoring decision which gave a 5th inning hit to Pirate Adam LaRoche instead of an error to CC Sabathia. It's the only hit that Sabathia would allow on the day as he struck out 11 and improved to 9-0 as a Brewer.
The Brewers contend that Sabathia should have fielded the ball cleanly and thrown out LaRoche. The scoring judgement could have gone that way and had it, you wouldn't have gotten an arguement from either side. But since it went the otherway, the Brewers are now said to be protesting the scoring decision to the league. They want Sabathia's no-hitter restored.
First of all, good for Sabathia. He's been the rock that's held this Brewers team together in the second half and he's the only member of the Brewers team that isn't making a big deal out of this. In otherwords, he's the only person that doesn't sound like a whining child in all of this. Even the television announcers are overboard.
I can't imagine the league is going to even consider this. Had the scoring go the other way, who's to say that the pressure doesn't continue to mount in the late innings and Sabathia cracks and gives up a hit. It's happened many, many times before. Secondly, when's the last time you saw a player on the infield, try to make a backhanded pickup and get charged with an error. I can't say it's never happened, but it rarely happens.
Come on Ned Yost. Set the tone for your team. get your focus back on the baseball playoff race. Yes we all would have loved to see Sabathia throw a no-hitter. It didn't happen, so get back to work and get your mind on what's really important. And no more whining, Please!!!!
