The Milwaukee Brewers have signed outfielder Kevin Mench to a 1-year contract worth $3.4-million, avoiding salary arbitration.

The Brewers acquired Mench in the Carlos Lee deal last July.  It leaves the team with five players who remain arbitration eligible.

The Brewers exchanged salary figures with all five players yesterday.  Left-handed pitcher Chris Capuano asked for $3.7-million and was offered $2.8-million; catcher Johnny Estrada asked for $3.9-million and was offered $3-million; Bill Hall asked for $4.1-million and was offered $3-million; utility player Tony Graffanino asked for $3.7-million and was offered $2.8-million; and right-handed pitcher Claudio Vargas asked for around $2.8-million and was offered about $2.1-million.
