The Milwaukee Brewers signed free-agent right-hander Jeff Weaver to a minor league contract. Weaver will report to extended spring training for a week or more before joining the Brewers Class AAA Nashville affiliate.
If Weaver joins the Brewers big league club, he could earn as much as $4-million with incentives included.
The deal reportedly includes an "out" clause that allows Weaver to sign with another club if the Brewers don't promote him by an unknown date in June.
Weaver pitched last season for Seattle, going 7-13 with a 6.20 ERA in 27 starts. He failed to sign with another team before the 2008 season, and was free to sign with any club.
