A sloppy start led to a 7-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs last night, as the Milwaukee Brewers extended their losing streak to seven straight games.

The Cubs scored four runs in the bottom of the first and never let the Brewers back in the game.  They’ve been outscored 49-14 during the seven game slide.

Yovani Gallardo (8-8, 3.43) was tagged for eight hits and seven runs (5 earned) in five innings as the Brewers dropped two-full games behind the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Central after the Cardinals knocked off Pittsburgh.

Matt Garza (7-7, 3.58) returns to the starting rotation tonight.  He’ll face Chicago’s Kyle Kendricks (5-1, 1.91) in the series finale.

Gomez out

Center fielder Carlos Gomez is expected to miss a couple of weeks with a sprained wrist that he injured while batting in last Sunday’s game against San Francisco.

Gomez went to Milwaukee to have his wrist examined by team physician William Raasch.  An MRI revealed no structural damage, but Gomez was diagnosed with a significant sprain and the wrist was put into a brace.

Gomez is hitting .282 with 21 homers, 65 rbi’s and 29 stolen bases this season.

September call-ups

The Brewers called up three more players from Class AAA Nashville, third baseman Jason Rogers, first/third baseman Matt Clark and shortstop Hector Gomez.  Rogers picked up his first big league hit in his first at bat, doubling into the right field corner on an 0-2 count, late in last night’s game.
