Casey McGehee and Rickie Weeks homered and the Milwaukee Brewers scored five unearned runs off of Washington starter Ross Detwiler in beating the Nationals 8-3 at Miller Park, completing a 3-game sweep.
The win moved the Brewers to within 6-games of the .500 mark (47-53), the closest they’ve been to that mark since the middle of May. It makes their series with the Cincinnati Reds starting tonight one of utmost importance.
McGehee’s 3-run homer in the 7th finished the scoring and came after the Nationals walked Prince Fielder. Previously, teams would pitch around Fielder and the Brewers wouldn’t make them pay. But yesterday, McGehee took advantage.

The Brewers are starting to move in the right direction, winning 10 of their last 14 games. They enter tonight’s series against Cincinnati at Miller Park trailing the second place Reds by 8-games and the first place Cardinals by
8 1/2. Manager Ken Macha knows the Brewers are in for a tough series against the Reds.

Dave Bush earned his 5th win of the season (5-8) by working 6-innings and allowing 3-runs on 6-hits. Bush struck out 7 and walked nobody.
Washington helped the Brewers by committing 2 errors, adding to their Major League leading total which is now at 80.
