Major League Baseball’s all-star break continues for one more day before the

Doug Melvin

second half of the season resumes Friday.

The Milwaukee Brewers will work out today before opening the second half of the season Friday night at home against the division leading Pittsburgh Pirates.  The Brewers start the second half 5-games under .500, trailing the Pirates by 8-games.

Brewers general manager Doug Melvin has a handful of takers, if he wants to deal ace pitcher Zach Greinke.  But Melvin still seems interested in seeing how the team comes out of the gates in the second half before making any deals.

The Brewers play the next 9-games against the Pirates, Cardinals and Reds to open the second half of the season.  All three teams are in front of the Brewers in the standings.  Melvin will have a much better idea in a week and a half if he’s going to be a buyer or a seller before the trade deadline.

Roster move

The Brewers made another roster move, sending relief pitcher Tim Dillard to AAA Nashville and recalling right-hander Tyler Thornburg.  Thornburg is a starting pitcher that will move to the bullpen for the time being.
