A state legislator's proposal would require Amish residents to register their horse drawn buggies with local governments. The fee to register a vehicle in Wisconsin went up at the beginning of the new year, and now Rep. Joan Ballweg (R-Green Lake) wants to allow local governments to make some extra money by charging a registration fee for horse drawn buggies. Ballweg says the optional $40 dollar fee would help keep roads safe, and in good repair. She says her bill would allow local governments to collect the money and use it for road repair. Ballweg introduced a similar measure in 2005, but it failed.
