Mary Burke easily fended off a primary challenge from state Representative Brett Hulsey Tuesday night, clearing the way for her campaign against Republican Governor Scott Walker.

“My game plan has been pretty much the same since I got into this last October,” Burke said. “Making sure that the voters of Wisconsin get to know me, get to know the type of governor I’ll be and the plans that I have for leading Wisconsin forward.”

For his part Hulsey said he has no intention of continuing with a campaign as an independent, and will throw his support to Burke. “I don’t want to spoil anybody’s chances to beat Scott Walker,” said Hulsey. “From the very beginning this was about having the best candidate, the best debate, the best prepared to beat Scott Walker.”

State Senator John Lehman won the Democratic primary for lieutenant governor, meaning he’ll be Burke’s running mate against Walker and Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch. Walker and Burke take to the campaign trail again on Wednesday: Burke in Minoqua and Walker in Stevens Point.
