The State of our education will be addressed in Madison's capital city today. The State Superintendent will introduce her 2007-09 education budget proposal during her fifth annual State of Education address at noon in the Capitol Rotunda. “In my State of Education address, I'm going to be reporting to the citizens of Wisconsin on the state of quality education, equity and access to educational opportunities throughout our state.”
Elizabeth Burmaster says she'll talk about how a strong investment in pre-Kindergarten through grade-12 education can be the backbone for advancing economic development in Wisconsin. Also, she says she'll talk about the New Wisconsin Promise. “I will be really focusing on our new Wisconsin Promise, which is to ensure that in Wisconsin every child has the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills that they're going to need to be productive citizens and life long learners in our 21st century.”
Burmaster will stress the importance of pre-K through 12 education working together with colleges to ensure there will be equal access in educational opportunities for all students in our state. State support for schools this fiscal year is almost 6-billion dollars, which is estimated to be about 66-percent of the total revenue schools receive.
