Expect a lot of company on the roads and in airports over the Thanksgiving holiday. Over 42 million Americans, including 860,000 Wisconsinites, are expected to travel over the next few days.

Pam Moen with AAA-Wisconsin says it’s a pretty significant increase over 2009, with about 11-percent more Americans saying they plan to travel this year. Moen says it’s largely due to improving economic conditions.

Most people will be traveling by car, although Moen says airports will be pretty busy as well today. She urges those traveling by road or air to get started out early, in order to avoid long waits.

For those going by car, statewide average gas prices are at $2.88 a gallon. That’s down from around $3.00 just a couple of weeks ago.
