Even opponents of a bill to deregulate the cable TV industry in Wisconsin admit it's likely to pass. A-T-and-T did a good job of lobbying state legislators on a cable TV deregulation bill. So says UW Telecommunications Professor Barry Orton, who opposes the bill. Orton says rates will continue to go up and consumers won't have as many protections. But, he predicts it will pass and be signed into law. The bill was approved by the Legislature's Finance Committee on Wednesday, and is scheduled for a vote in the state Senate next week.
