Why did the beaver cross the road? And how do you get a beaver into a squad car? Those questions remain unanswered in Racine County, where the Village of Caledonia Police Department is telling the story about a beaver obstructing traffic — complete with the photos to back it up.
According to a posting on the department’s Facebook page, the furry, semiaquatic rodent was spotted Tuesday, standing in Three Mile Road at Johnson Park Drive. The “beav,” as it was referenced in the narrative, was coaxed into the back seat of a squad car by Officer Andrew Gelden — although there’s no mention of how that was accomplished.
The beaver — not wearing a seatbelt — was then driven by Gelden to a local pond. The obstructionist was “given a short, but effective lecture,” on violating statute 346.25 in regards to pedestrians yielding to vehicles when crossing the road. The beaver was released, and pointed toward some trees. To prove it all happened, there are pictures on the Caledonia Police Facebook page.
