Is Governor Jim Doyle serious, about campaign finance reform? Jay Heck with Common Cause in Wisconsin says laws governing campaigns in the state have not been updated since 1977. "Right now Wisconsin's operating under thirty year old rules," Heck says. "Basically, they're meaningless."

Governor Jim Doyle says he'll introduce campaign finance reform proposals later this fall. Heck says he'll need to do better than that, by calling a special session of the legislature. "Failing that, I don't see how he can say he's serious about any campaign finance reform, prior to the 2008 elections." Heck says he'll be interested to see what Doyle proposes, but notes there are several bills already in the legislature that could be quickly acted on in a special session.
