Time is running out for meaningful campaign finance reform. That from Jay Heck with Common Cause in Wisconsin. Heck says the key player remains Governor Jim Doyle, who could call the legislature into special session. Barring that, Heck expects another expensive — and negative — state Supreme Court election next Spring. If Doyle is serious about reform, Heck says he'd better act soon, within the next six weeks. Heck notes that Doyle signed the bill creating the state's new Government Accountability Board back on Groundhog's Day, and campaign finance package could be ready on a similar time frame, if the governor pushes for it.
