A statewide crackdown on drunk driving resulted in nearly 1,000 arrests.

Law enforcement across the state took part in the "Over the Limit, Under Arrest" campaign during the last two weeks of August. Dennis Hughes with the state Bureau of Transportation Safety says the effort paid off with about 930 people arrested for OWI.

Nearly 300 law enforcement agencies took part in the campaign, which ran up through the Labor Day weekend.

Hughes says having extra officers on the road also helped to crack down on other offenses. Those include nearly 1,300 safety belt violations, 4,700 speeding tickets, and 1,600 people caught operating a vehicle with a revoked license.

Hughes hopes the results send a clear message to those who still drive drunk that police are watching for them and they should just stay off the road if they've been drinking.
