The investigation continues into what caused part of a Milwaukee parking structure to collapse, killing a 15-year-old boy and injuring two other people.

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke says 15-year-old Jared Kellner of Greenfield was killed Thursday afternoon when a 27,000 pound slab of concrete fell from the facade of a parking garage along the lakefront.

Kellner was walking with a friend and his friend’s parents to Milwaukee’s Summerfest, after parking in the O’Donnell parking garage. Clarke says that’s when the 30 foot slab of concrete fell from the second level of the parking structure.

Kellner’s 15-year-old friend and the friend’s 36-year-old mother received non-life threatening injuries. Clarke says they don’t know why the slab fell and engineers are working to determine if the rest of the structure is safe. Until then, the parking garage is closed and the public is being urged to stay away.
